Guangzhou–Hong Kong–Macau triangle in 5 days
Two days in Guangzhou's ancestral halls and food streets, two in Hong Kong, one in Macau.

The Pearl River Delta sits close enough together that this triangle works without any flights. Guangzhou and Hong Kong are 50 minutes apart by high-speed rail; the Hong Kong–Macau ferry or the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge link the third corner. Each city has a distinct character: Guangzhou is working-class Cantonese China; Hong Kong is vertical, multilingual, and relentlessly commercial; Macau is the faded-colonial outlier with good egg tarts.
