Short version
ChinaVisitGuide sets no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, and no persistent tracking cookies. The only cookies present are those required to keep the site functional and those added by Cloudflare for network security.
Cookies we set
Next.js session cookies (functional)
Next.js, the framework this site is built on, may set a short-lived session cookie to maintain state across page navigations. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
Cloudflare security cookies (third-party, functional)
Cloudflare sits in front of this site to protect it from distributed denial-of-service attacks. Cloudflare may set cookies such as __cf_bm and cf_clearance for bot-detection purposes. These are set by Cloudflare, not by us, and are governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Supabase authentication cookies (functional, newsletter and corrections forms only)
When you submit a newsletter signup or a correction form, Supabase Auth may set a short-lived cookie to manage the confirmation flow — for example, to verify your email address. This cookie has a lifetime of one hour and is removed automatically once the flow is complete. No persistent authentication cookie is set for general readers.
What we do not set
- Analytics cookies: we do not run Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Hotjar or any comparable service.
- Advertising cookies: we do not serve advertisements and have no relationship with any ad network.
- Social media cookies: we do not embed social share widgets that would cause third-party social networks to set cookies on this site.

How to control cookies
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies. The steps vary by browser:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Firefox:Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data.

Blocking the Cloudflare cookies may cause the site to present a security challenge page on certain connections. Blocking the Next.js session cookie has no material effect for read-only visitors.
