About
34m bronze seated Buddha on Lantau Island, completed 1993. Adjacent Po Lin Monastery, the Wisdom Path bamboo trail, and the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.
The Tian Tan Buddha was unveiled in 1993 — at 34m and 250 tonnes, it was the largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha statue in the world at the time. The statue sits on the plateau of Ngong Ping in Lantau's mountains, accessed by the Ngong Ping 360 cable car from Tung Chung (a 25-minute ride with crystal-floor option). Adjacent: the Po Lin Monastery (founded 1906), the Wisdom Path bamboo-script trail, and a vegetarian restaurant at the monastery.
