The Dujiangyan Panda Base (officially Dujiangyan Wolong Panda Centre) opened in 2013 as a less-crowded alternative to the central Chengdu panda base. ~30 pandas in spacious habitats. The site offers paid volunteer programmes (¥700 for a half-day with substantial hands-on time) — popular with international visitors who want a closer experience. Combine with the Dujiangyan irrigation system and Mt Qingcheng for a 2-day Sichuan classical-sights trip.
