Accessible China — mobility-friendly 7 days in Beijing and Shanghai
Seven days in Beijing and Shanghai planned for visitors with mobility limitations — step-free access, English-language signage, accessible transport and accommodation notes throughout.
China has made significant improvements to accessibility infrastructure in its major cities since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, though standards remain inconsistent. Beijing and Shanghai have the best provision: both metro systems have lifts at most stations (check the map for the wheelchair symbol), the HSR is accessible with ramp boarding, and the major attractions have been progressively upgraded. This itinerary chooses sites with confirmed lift access and avoids those requiring significant stair climbing. Cobblestone surfaces are noted where relevant — some historic hutong lanes and older temple courtyards have uneven paving.
