About
1924 Norman-style apartment building on Wukang Road, the photogenic landmark of the former French Concession.
Wukang Mansion (originally I.S.S. Apartments, 1924) was designed by the Hungarian-Hong Kong architect László Hudec for the International Savings Society. The 8-storey Norman-style building anchors the iconic intersection at the western end of Wukang Road and is one of Shanghai's most-photographed buildings — particularly at sunset, when the cream and pink light hits the curved façade. Several writers and film stars lived in the building over the decades. Walking past from any direction along the plane-tree-lined Wukang Road is one of the city's signature small experiences.
