Hainan Tropical Loop — Sanya to Wenchang, 5 days
Hainan Island (海南岛) lies at China's tropical southern tip and functions as a domestic beach destination for mainland tourists. But beyond the international hotel strips of Sanya, it has genuine interest: the Li and Miao ethnic minorities with distinct weaving and tattooing traditions, a tropical rainforest interior, the Wenchang Space Launch Centre, and a growing surf scene around Riyuewan (Lover's Bay). This loop moves efficiently around the island.

Day 1 · sanya
Arrival Sanya, Yalong Bay
Arrive Sanya Phoenix Airport. Yalong Bay — a curved bay with the clearest water on the island and a coral reef at its eastern end. Snorkelling equipment rental available. Seafood dinner on the Sanya fishing port waterfront.

Day 2 · sanya
Wuzhizhou Island, snorkelling, Tianya Haijiao
Morning ferry to Wuzhizhou Island — coral gardens and warm water. Afternoon at Tianya Haijiao (天涯海角), the symbolic 'edge of the world' promontory that has appeared on Chinese stamps and in poetry since the Tang dynasty. Sunset watching.

Day 3 · sanya
Drive to Yanoda Rainforest, Li village visit
Road trip into the interior. Yanoda Tropical Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone — walkways through original rainforest canopy with orchids, banyan strangler figs, and resident gibbons. Li minority village visit: traditional boat-shaped thatched longhouses and demonstration of Li brocade weaving (黎锦), which uses a body-tension loom technique listed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage register.
Stay in: Baoting or rural guesthouse.
Road Sanya → Baoting, 1.5h, by bus or hired car.
Day 4 · wenchang
Road north to Wenchang, Space Science Centre
Drive north through coconut plantation country — Wenchang coconuts are a Hainan institution. Wenchang Space Launch Centre observation site — China's newest and most accessible rocket launch facility. The visitor centre explains the Tianwen Mars missions and Shenzhou crew capsule programme. Wenchang is Hainan's most historic city, the ancestral home of many overseas Chinese.
Stay in: Wenchang or Haikou.
Road Baoting → Wenchang via Haikou, 3–4h.
Day 5 · haikou
Haikou Old Town, Qilou architecture, departure
Morning in Haikou's Qilou Old Street — arcaded shophouse architecture of the 1920s–30s, similar in character to Penang or Singapore. Hainan specialty coffee (imported originally by returned overseas workers from Vietnam and Malaysia) and local rice noodle soup. Fly from Haikou Meilan Airport.
Stay in: No overnight — fly out.
Flight HAK → Beijing 3.5h, ¥700; HAK → Shanghai 2.5h, ¥600.
