Xishan District

Xishan takes its name from Tin Mountain (Xishan — literally Hill of Tin), a low granite ridge that was historically mined for tin and iron and gave the city of Wuxi its name ("no tin" — a reference to the ore deposits being exhausted by the Han dynasty). The mountain is now the centrepiece of Xihui Park, a combined park covering both Tin Mountain and the adjacent Hui Mountain.

Longguang Pagoda, on the summit of Tin Mountain, is a seven-storey brick pagoda originally built in the Tang dynasty and substantially reconstructed in the Ming. The pagoda is visible from a wide area of central Wuxi and remains a principal landmark on the city's skyline. The summit also provides the clearest view across the Jiangnan plain — on clear days, the Taihu lake surface is visible to the south.

The Second Spring Under Heaven (Tianxia Di Er Quan) is a spring at the foot of Hui Mountain that was declared the finest tea spring in China by the Tang-dynasty tea master Lu Yu, who placed it second after a spring in the Yangtze at Yangzhou. The spring has been a destination for literati and tea culture since the Tang period; the surrounding park area has teahouses offering tea brewed from the spring water.

Hui Mountain is also associated with the production of clay figurines (Huishan Niren) — a folk-craft tradition producing brightly painted clay animals and mythological figures that has been practiced in the village at the hill's foot for several centuries.
