About this neighbourhood
Wuhan's new CBD development along the southern Han River shore was launched in the early 2000s as a deliberate corporate-and-financial counterpart to the older Hankou Bund. The Wuhan Greenland Centre, originally designed at 636m to be the tallest building in central China, was repeatedly redesigned downwards (final structural completion at 475m in 2022) due to height restrictions and economic considerations during construction.
The Han Show Theatre, completed 2014 and designed by the late stadium-rock-tour designer Mark Fisher, is a substantial red-and-orange lantern-shaped performance venue on the Yangtze River shore. The theatre hosts a permanent water-and-light spectacle production combining acrobatics, video projection, and substantial stage-machinery effects.
The Wuhan Yangtze Cross-River Tunnel, opened 2008, was the first cross-Yangtze automobile tunnel in China. The Yangtze River Cableway, an aerial cable-car system across the Yangtze near the new CBD, is a popular evening photographic destination — cars cross the river at substantial height with night views of the city.
The Wuhan New CBD has been less commercially successful than equivalent districts in coastal cities — Wuhan's domestic and regional commercial flow remains substantially routed through Hankou and the older Wuchang business districts. The new CBD is most populated during weekday business hours.

Transit
Metro Lines 3, 6, 8 across the new CBD. The Han River bridges connect to the Hanyang side.
Where to stay
International conference hotels — Wuhan Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Crowne Plaza. Service apartments in the surrounding residential blocks. Few mid-range or boutique options.
Hazards & notes
Construction is ongoing across substantial portions of the district; pedestrian routes change frequently. The new CBD has fewer authentic local restaurants — most dining is chain or international.
