Tianjin Railway Station Area

Tianjin Railway Station occupies the eastern bank of the Hai River where the river makes its bend through central Tianjin. The original 1888 Beaux-Arts station building survives in restored form alongside the modern intercity HSR terminal that handles the 30-minute service to Beijing South.

The Tianjin Eye, a 120-metre Ferris wheel built into the Yongle Bridge across the Hai River, is the visual landmark of the riverside. The wheel is a working transport bridge — cars cross beneath the rotating ring of cabins. The 2008 design was the first Ferris wheel built into a bridge structure in the world.

The Hai River cruise terminal at the station provides afternoon and evening river-cruise services — short circuits past the Italian Concession and the Wudadao district, longer routes towards the Binhai Bay. The walking promenade along the southern bank connects continuously to the Italian Concession and Wudadao via a series of pedestrian bridges, providing the most pleasant route through central Tianjin.
