TIANJIN · ARRIVAL GUIDE
Arriving in Tianjin
Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN) handles domestic flights and some regional routes. Most international visitors arrive via Beijing Capital Airport (PEK) and transfer by HSR — the 30-minute journey from Beijing South to Tianjin South is one of China's most convenient city connections.
Airport to hotel
From TSN: Metro Line 2 runs to the city centre (Tianjin Station area) in about 45 minutes (¥6). Taxis from TSN cost ¥60–100 to central Tianjin. From Beijing South Station via HSR: arrive at Tianjin South Station; Metro Line 3 connects to Heping, Nankai, and city centre in 20 minutes. From Tianjin Station (main): Metro Lines 1/2/3/9 all connect from this central interchange.
SIM & connectivity
Tourist SIMs are available at TSN and at larger phone shops near Binjiang Road. Given Tianjin's proximity to Beijing, many visitors manage with their Beijing SIM for the full journey. Standard VPN requirements apply.
Mobile payments
Alipay and WeChat Pay are standard throughout Tianjin. Ancient Culture Street vendors and the Food Street market accept both. The Tianjin metro uses a local transit card but also accepts Alipay and WeChat Pay. Foreign card linking via Alipay International is reliable.
Currency & ATMs
ATMs at ICBC, Bank of China, and Construction Bank branches throughout the Heping and Nankai districts accept foreign cards. Cash is useful for the Ancient Culture Street market stalls and street food vendors. Keep ¥300–400 on hand.
Managing jet lag
Tianjin is UTC+8. An early visit to the Ancient Culture Street before 10:00 catches the morning bread and pastry vendors and avoids the midday crowds — a practical first-morning activity for jet-lagged visitors.
English support & contacts
Hotels in the Heping and Five Avenues area have English-capable concierge staff. The Tianjin Natural History Museum has English labelling on major exhibits. The European concession architecture means international business visitors are common and hotel staff are accustomed to English requests. In emergencies, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital has an international patient department.
