Nancheng CBD

Dongguan Nancheng (South City) became the de-facto administrative centre of Dongguan municipality in the 2000s when the city upgraded its governance infrastructure to match its economic weight. Dongguan is one of the most industrially significant cities in the Pearl River Delta — the global factory for Nike, hundreds of electronics component makers, and the furniture-hardware trade — and its civic architecture reflects the confidence that comes with that industrial wealth.

Victoria Garden, the artificial lake at the centre of Nancheng, was constructed as the centrepiece of the district's civic development and is surrounded by walking paths, public art installations, and the evening lighting displays that are standard in Chinese new-district development. The lake is primarily used by local residents for morning exercise and evening family walks.

Dongguan Museum, on the lake's eastern edge, provides a substantive collection of Dongguan's archaeological and manufacturing history — including a section dedicated to the history of export manufacturing and the social transformation of the Pearl River Delta since 1978. The collection is well-presented and gives useful context for understanding the city.

The People's Park, adjacent to the museum, is a large public green space with specimen trees and pavilions. Like Victoria Garden, it functions primarily as a neighbourhood amenity for the CBD residential population rather than a tourist destination.
