Yuzhong North (Jiefang Bei to Cathay Cove)

The northern bank of the Yuzhong Peninsula descends in dramatic steps from the central spine down to the Jialing River. The 60-to-80-metre vertical drop across narrow horizontal distances has produced one of the most distinctive urban geometries in China — alleyways climb in stages with stone steps, residential buildings face the river at multiple elevation levels, and the metro line emerges from the cliff face to traverse a residential building (Liziba Station) before re-entering the cliff.

Liziba Metro Station, where Line 2 runs through floors 6–8 of an 18-storey residential block, has become an internet-famous tourist photograph. The arrangement is operationally normal — substantial sound insulation between the metro level and the residential floors above and below — but the visual effect of a metro train passing through a building is striking.

Eling Park, on the spine of the peninsula at its northern end, contains Republican-era Stilwell Museum and the wartime broadcasting tower. The park's northern observation pavilions provide the canonical evening view over the Jialing River and the Liangjiang New Area beyond.

Hongyadong, on the river edge below the peninsula, extends substantially north of the central Jiefangbei retail core. The northern Hongyadong is somewhat quieter than the southern photo-tourist concentration but retains the same illuminated-cliff-village architectural character.
