Liangjiang New Area
两江新区 · Chongqing's northern megaproject development zone — the country's third national-level new district, with substantial automotive manufacturing, the new financial CBD at Yubei, and a polished international-conference character.
About this neighbourhood
Liangjiang New Area was designated in 2010 as the third national-level new district in mainland China, after Shanghai's Pudong and Tianjin's Binhai. The district covers 1,200 square kilometres on the northern bank of the Jialing River and includes the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, substantial automotive manufacturing (Chang'an Auto's main plant, Ford's Chongqing joint venture, Hyundai's Chongqing factory), and the new Yubei financial-and-commercial CBD.
The district's strategic role within Chongqing's economy is industrial-and-manufacturing rather than tourist-and-cultural. The wider Chongqing automotive industry — the country's third-largest automotive manufacturing cluster — concentrates here. Substantial logistics infrastructure, the Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, supports the New Eurasian Land Bridge — the rail freight service that connects Chongqing to Duisburg in Germany via Russia and Kazakhstan in roughly 14 days.
For visitors, the Liangjiang New Area is most useful as the airport-and-conference base for the city. The Jiangbei International Airport is on the eastern side; international hotels along the Yubei CBD provide the city's most internationally-equipped accommodation. The actual tourist destinations are concentrated in central Yuzhong and Nan'an.

Hazards & notes
