Shenzhen North Railway Station

深圳北站. Shenzhen's primary high-speed hub in Longhua, an interchange for the Beijing–Guangzhou and southbound routes toward Hong Kong.

About this station

Shenzhen North Railway Station opened in 2011 as the high-speed counterpart to the older Lo Wu border station, positioning itself in the Longhua district — a newly developed area between Shenzhen's established commercial districts and the manufacturing belt to the north.

The station is a substantial structure with a curved roof design, built to handle the volumes generated by one of China's fastest-growing major cities. Shenzhen's population, essentially zero when the Special Economic Zone was established in 1980, has grown to over 17 million permanent residents, with far higher daytime figures if floating population is included.

High-speed trains from Shenzhen North reach Guangzhou South in 20 minutes and Hong Kong West Kowloon in 25 minutes — effectively making the three cities a single commuter catchment area by high-speed rail. This connectivity has transformed the Pearl River Delta into one of the world's most integrated metropolitan regions: it is entirely routine to live in one city and work or shop in another.

Entry tips

Shenzhen North is the city's primary high-speed hub, located in the Longhua district between the old Luohu district and the newer Nanshan tech area. Allow 35 minutes. The station is modern and well signed. Confirm you are going to North rather than the Lo Wu border station.

Security flow

Food inside the station

Good Cantonese food court on two levels: roast pork, dim sum, congee, and a range of Chaoshan (Teochew) braised items. Cantonese fast-food chains familiar from Hong Kong (including Café de Coral equivalents) are represented.

Food nearby

The Longhua district has a Shenzhen-standard density of restaurants in the blocks surrounding the station. Major malls are within a short taxi or metro ride.
