Qingdao North Railway Station
青岛北站. Qingdao's primary high-speed hub in Chengyang district, connected by metro to the historic waterfront and the city's new international airport.
About this station
Qingdao North Railway Station opened in 2014 as the city's principal high-speed terminal, handling the Qingdao–Jinan and northbound intercity services. The station was purpose-built for high-speed operations, whereas the older Qingdao station near the waterfront primarily serves slower services and has limited high-speed capacity.
The building is a large-format modern structure with an arched glass-and-steel roof, set in the relatively undeveloped Chengyang district. The area around the station is still maturing in terms of supporting infrastructure, though several hotels and restaurants have opened in the precinct since the station launched.
For visitors whose primary interest is Qingdao's famous German-era architecture along the Jiangsu Road and Zhanqiao Pier neighbourhoods, the metro is the practical connection between Qingdao North and the historic city. The 40-minute journey gives an efficient view of how quickly the city has expanded beyond its colonial-era core.
Entry tips
Qingdao North is the city's main high-speed hub, positioned north of the city centre in Chengyang district. It is less conveniently located than the older Qingdao station for visiting the historic waterfront, but offers faster and more frequent services. Allow 30 minutes.
Security flow
Standard entry procedure: baggage X-ray and ID scan, waiting hall gate, platform scan. The station is well signed in English.
Food inside the station
A food court on the first floor with Shandong seafood dishes, fried dumplings, noodles, and coffee chains. Tsingtao beer merchandise is sold at the station shops.
Food nearby
The Chengyang district has limited dining options for tourists. For Qingdao's coastal restaurants and beer streets, take the metro to the old city waterfront.
Transit to the city
Metro Line 8 connects Qingdao North to Qingdao station (the old waterfront area) in about 35 minutes (CNY 6). The metro also reaches the Jiaodong International Airport.
