盐城南洋国际机场 · YNZ / ZSYN. A regional Jiangsu airport serving the Yellow Sea coastal city of Yancheng, gateway to the Yancheng National Nature Reserve and the UNESCO Yellow Sea coastal wetlands.
About this airport
Yancheng Nanyang Airport serves Yancheng, a coastal prefecture-level city in central Jiangsu province on the Yellow Sea. Yancheng's international significance is its coastal wetland ecosystem: the Yancheng National Nature Reserve and the broader Jiangsu Tidal Flat area are inscribed as part of the UNESCO Yellow Sea Migratory Bird Habitat (Phase I, inscribed 2019). The mudflats and reed marshes of the Yancheng coast are critical stopover habitat for migratory shorebirds on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway, including the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper and near-threatened species such as the Bar-tailed Godwit, Great Knot, and Nordmann's Greenshank.
Ground transport from YNZ to Yancheng city centre is by Airport Express Bus (approximately 40 minutes, CNY 15) or by taxi (approximately CNY 50–70). [VERIFY: current fares — May 2026]. The airport is approximately 15 km from the city centre. No metro connection exists. Access to the nature reserve and birdwatching observation areas requires taxis or hired vehicles from the city — the wetlands are spread along the coast north and south of the city.
The airport handles a modest number of domestic routes, primarily to Beijing, Shanghai, and other eastern Chinese cities, with some seasonal Korean routes. [VERIFY: current routes — May 2026]. Most visitors to Yancheng's wetlands arrive from Shanghai by high-speed rail (approximately 2 hours to Yancheng station), making the airport a secondary access point for those connecting from more distant cities.
For serious birdwatchers, the best viewing periods are the autumn migration (September–November) and spring migration (March–May). The Yancheng Wetland and National Nature Reserve has observation platforms, guided walk options, and educational facilities. The Yellow Sea Wetland Research Centre in the city provides background on the site's ecological significance and can arrange guided visits. [VERIFY: current booking arrangements — May 2026]. The international significance of the site has grown since UNESCO inscription, and specialist birdwatching operators increasingly include Yancheng on East Asia shorebird circuits.
Beyond the wetlands, Yancheng has the New Fourth Army Memorial (significant in PLA history) and the Shelu Museum of the Xinhai Revolution. The city is primarily a manufacturing centre with developing tourism infrastructure.
No international routes operate at YNZ; immigration is domestic. SIM counters are in the arrivals hall. China Mobile and China Unicom provide coverage in the Yancheng area and along the coastal reserve roads.
Facilities at the terminal are limited: basic food counter, standard fast food, and limited seating. No Priority Pass lounge. Wi-Fi is available with standard registration. Chinese internet restrictions apply.
Accessibility at YNZ is adequate: essential lifts, ramps, and accessible toilets are present. Wheelchair assistance should be arranged through your airline in advance. The wetland reserve terrain involves boardwalks and uneven surfaces — accessibility conditions vary by section of the reserve.
