烟台蓬莱国际机场 · YNT / ZSYT. The gateway to Yantai, a Shandong wine-country city on the Bohai coast, and to the Penglai Pavilion — China's legendary isle of immortals.
About this airport
Yantai Penglai International Airport takes its name from two entities: Yantai, the city it primarily serves, and Penglai, a nearby historic district and the name of the mythological isle of immortals in Chinese Daoist tradition. The Penglai Pavilion (蓬莱阁), 65 km west of Yantai city, is one of China's Four Famous Towers and sits on a clifftop above Penglai Bay where sea fog occasionally creates a mirage effect said to be the origin of the island of immortals legend.
Ground transport from YNT to Yantai city centre is by Airport Express Bus (approximately 50 minutes, CNY 25) or by taxi (approximately CNY 100–140). [VERIFY: current fares — May 2026]. The airport is positioned between Yantai and Penglai on the Bohai coast, about 50 km from central Yantai — further than most comparable Chinese coastal city airports. The express bus is the standard efficient option.
International routes connect to Japan (Tokyo, Osaka), South Korea (Seoul, Busan), and some Southeast Asian destinations, reflecting Yantai's significant Korean and Japanese business communities. Domestic coverage is extensive, with direct connections to Beijing, Shanghai, and major southern Chinese cities.
Immigration at YNT follows the standard fingerprint and biometric procedure. International arrivals here are dominated by Japan and South Korea routes; processing is well-practised and typically takes 15–25 minutes. [VERIFY: current typical wait times — May 2026]. SIM counters from China Mobile and China Unicom are in the arrivals hall.
Yantai city is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in China — Changyu Wine, established in 1892, is China's oldest and largest winery and is headquartered here. The Changyu Wine Culture Museum in the city tells the story of Chinese viticulture development; the winery itself (on Changyu Road, Zhi Fu district) accepts visitors. The Shandong Peninsula coast around Yantai, with its beaches, seafood markets, and fishing villages, drives significant domestic summer leisure tourism.
The Penglai Pavilion historic complex is 65 km west along the coast; the high-speed rail connection from Yantai to Qingdao takes approximately 1.5 hours, making the two coastal Shandong cities combinable. The Qixia apple-growing county south of the city is one of China's major apple-producing areas; autumn harvest visits are available.
Priority Pass access is through the CIP Lounge (verify Priority Pass eligibility before travel). Food at the terminal includes Shandong seafood dishes and noodle options alongside standard chains.
