无锡苏南硕放国际机场 · WUX / ZSWX. A secondary Yangtze Delta airport serving both Wuxi and Suzhou — positioned between the two prosperous lake cities and providing an alternative to congested Shanghai Pudong.
About this airport
Wuxi Sunan Shuofang International Airport is positioned in the flat Yangtze Delta between Wuxi and Suzhou, two of Jiangsu's most prosperous and historically significant cities. The airport serves primarily as an alternative gateway to the Yangtze Delta region for those who find Shanghai Pudong or Hongqiao airports over-congested or inconveniently positioned for western Suzhou and Wuxi destinations.
Wuxi is a major industrial city on the northwestern shore of Lake Taihu, one of China's largest freshwater lakes. The city's Lingshan Grand Buddha — a 88-metre bronze seated figure larger than the Statue of Liberty — is its most visited attraction alongside the traditional gardens and canals of the Taihu lakeside. Suzhou, reachable by taxi from the airport in approximately 30–40 minutes, is renowned for its classical gardens (UNESCO), silk weaving tradition, and exceptionally well-preserved canal network.
Domestic connections are comprehensive. International routes connect to Japan, South Korea, and some Southeast Asian destinations [VERIFY: current routes — May 2026]. The airport functions efficiently — it handles substantial cargo alongside passengers, serving the industrial manufacturing base of the Yangtze Delta.
The high-speed rail network from Wuxi means the airport is rarely the fastest option for central-city destinations — but for those arriving from non-Shanghai destinations and heading directly to Wuxi or western Suzhou, the airport-to-destination journey is shorter and simpler than routing through Shanghai.
