南宁吴圩国际机场 · NNG / ZGNN. The gateway to Guangxi's capital — the Zhuang minority cultural centre, gateway to Guilin, Zuojiang rock art (UNESCO), and the Vietnam border crossing at Friendship Pass.
About this airport
Nanning Wuxu International Airport serves Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Nanning occupies a subtropical position near the Vietnamese border, and its character reflects this: a lush, warm, palmlined city with strong Vietnamese culinary influences, a large Zhuang minority population, and significant cross-border trade and tourism connections with Vietnam.
International connections from NNG include routes to Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City), Southeast Asian destinations, and some further routes. The Friendship Pass (Youyi Guan) border crossing to Vietnam at Pingxiang, 170 km south, is the most used land crossing between China and Vietnam and is accessible from Nanning by road or rail.
Domestic connections are comprehensive. Guilin is 90 minutes north by high-speed rail — a common combination. The Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art (UNESCO) requires a connection to Chongzuo, 40 minutes west by high-speed. The Detian Waterfall on the Vietnamese border is approximately 3 hours southwest by road.
Nanning's old street food culture — particularly the beef noodle tradition (lao you fen — Old Friend Noodles, named for their comfort-food qualities) and the sesame and peanut-based cold noodle dishes — is the most immediate reason to spend time in the city. The International Minority Cultural Park outside the city preserves traditional architecture and crafts of Guangxi's 12 minority nationalities.
