重庆江北国际机场 · CKG / ZUCK. Gateway to the Yangtze gorges and China's inland megacity, Chongqing's airport has direct metro access and Sichuan hot pot available airside.
About this airport
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport serves one of China's most distinctive cities: a direct-controlled municipality of over 30 million people built on steep limestone hills at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. The city's topography means that neither metro nor elevated roads run straight for long, and the resulting stacked, vertical urban form — with elevated highways passing through the middle of buildings and metro lines emerging from tunnels to run across ridge-top viaducts — has become widely circulated on social media as one of China's most visually compelling cities.
The airport lies north of the Jialing River, roughly 22 kilometres from the Jiefangbei commercial centre. Terminal 3A, opened in 2017, is a large modern facility with good natural light, efficient processing flows, and a strong local food presence in the food court. The Pullman Chongqing Jiangbei Airport hotel is connected by covered walkway.
Metro Lines 3 and 10 both serve the airport. Metro Line 10 connects T3A directly; the journey to Jiefangbei (Liberation Monument commercial centre) takes approximately 35–45 minutes and costs approximately CNY 8. [VERIFY: current fare — May 2026]. Metro Line 3 provides an additional routing. Taxis to Jiefangbei cost approximately CNY 70–120 depending on traffic — the highway approach can be congested during rush hours. DiDi rideshare is well-used in Chongqing and available from designated pickup zones.
Immigration at CKG processes through T3A's international piers. The standard fingerprint and biometric procedure applies. International routes connect to Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia (particularly Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore), and a growing list of European cities. Wait times for international arrivals are typically 20–35 minutes during busy periods. [VERIFY: current typical wait times — May 2026]. SIM counters from China Mobile and China Unicom are in the T3A arrivals hall.
Chongqing is the primary departure point for Yangtze River cruises through the Three Gorges, one of China's classic long-distance travel experiences — the 3–5 day downstream journey to Yichang passes through the famous gorge landscape. The Ciqikou ancient town, the Dazu Rock Carvings (UNESCO, approximately 2 hours west), and the Wulong Karst landscape (UNESCO, approximately 3 hours southeast) are the city's primary day-trip heritage destinations.
The city is known for its particularly intense form of Sichuan hot pot — the Chongqing version is heavier on Sichuan pepper and fresh chilli oil than Chengdu interpretations, and is served at tables where diners cook raw meat, offal, and vegetables in the broth. The T3A food court serves a reasonable version. The evening riverbank areas of Jiefangbei and Hongyadong are the main nightlife zones.
Scams at CKG arrivals follow the standard pattern. The official taxi rank is outside T3A arrivals and clearly marshalled. Priority Pass access is through the Chongqing Airlines Lounge and Air China Lounge in T3A, both accepting Priority Pass.
Wi-Fi requires passport-scan or phone-number verification. Chinese internet restrictions apply.
Accessibility at CKG is good: T3A's modern design includes lifts at all key points, tactile paving throughout, and accessible toilet facilities. Metro Lines 3 and 10 stations are accessible by lift. Wheelchair assistance is available through your airline.

T3A has a strong Chongqing food presence: mala hot pot stalls, xiaomian noodles (重庆小面), and chuan chuan skewers. The level of spice is genuinely Chongqing-standard rather than tourist-moderated.
