郑州新郑国际机场 · CGO / ZHCC. The hub airport of Henan province's capital, a rapidly growing aerospace hub serving the historical heartland of Chinese civilisation — Shaolin, Luoyang, Dengfeng and the Yellow River.
About this airport
Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport is the hub for Henan province's capital city and one of China's fastest-growing freight and passenger airports. Zhengzhou's airport has achieved international cargo prominence as the home base for DHL and UPS China hub operations, driving freight volumes that place CGO among the busiest cargo airports in Asia — a position achieved largely through its central geographic location in the Chinese mainland.
The passenger side of the operation has grown in parallel. Henan province occupies the centre of the Chinese heartland — the Yellow River basin where Chinese civilisation originated — and Zhengzhou serves as the gateway to one of the country's densest concentrations of heritage sites: Shaolin Temple and the Dengfeng area (UNESCO, the Zhongyue Temple complex and surrounding Song Mountain sites); Longmen Grottoes near Luoyang (UNESCO, approximately 1.5 hours west); Anyang with its Shang-dynasty oracle bone inscription site (UNESCO, approximately 2 hours north); the Song-dynasty Kaifeng historic city; and the Yinxu archaeological site.
Ground transport from CGO is by Airport Express Metro Line 2, which runs to Zhengzhou East Railway Station and the city centre in approximately 30 minutes for approximately CNY 25. [VERIFY: current fare — May 2026]. Taxis to the city centre cost approximately CNY 80–120. The metro is the standard efficient choice; the approach roads can be congested. DiDi rideshare is available from designated airport zones.
Immigration at CGO processes through T2's international section. The standard fingerprint and biometric procedure applies. International connections cover Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and some European routes. Wait times for international arrivals are typically 20–35 minutes. [VERIFY: current typical wait times — May 2026]. SIM counters from China Mobile and China Unicom are in the T2 arrivals hall.
Zhengzhou city itself is primarily an industrial and logistics hub. The Yellow River Scenic Area north of the city provides geographical context — the river and its loess landscape are best viewed from the Mangshan viewpoint. The local noodle culture is the most immediately accessible food interest: Henan braised noodles (烩面, huìmiàn, flat wheat noodles in rich mutton or beef broth with sesame paste) are the provincial speciality and available at street stalls throughout the city at competitive prices.
The metro connection from CGO to Zhengzhou East Railway Station is directly useful for transit travellers: from Zhengzhou East, high-speed trains reach Luoyang (Longmen Grottoes) in 40 minutes, Xi'an in approximately 2 hours, and Anyang in approximately 40 minutes.
Scams at CGO follow the standard pattern. Official taxi rank is outside T2 arrivals. Priority Pass access is through the CIP Lounge T2 (verify Priority Pass eligibility before travel).
Food in T2 includes Henan-style noodles, braised dishes, and regional snacks alongside standard chains. Wi-Fi requires standard passport-scan verification. Chinese internet restrictions apply.
Accessibility at CGO is good: lifts, tactile paving, ramps, and accessible toilets are present in T2. Metro Line 2 platforms are accessible by lift. Wheelchair assistance is available through your airline.
