China visa for Sweden citizens

Current status (verified May 2026)

Swedish ordinary passport holders are eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China for tourism, business, family visit or transit. Sweden was included in the 2024 expansion.

Bilateral relations note

Sweden–China relations have at times been strained in the 2020s over various diplomatic disputes. As of May 2026, the visa-free arrangement remains in force, but travellers should confirm the current policy before booking non-refundable travel, as diplomatic disputes occasionally influence visa policy.

What you need at the border

• Passport valid 6+ months beyond stay.
• Onward ticket.
• Hotel booking or address.
• Digital arrival declaration.

Scope

Tourism, business meetings, family visit. Tibet Travel Permit required separately. Stays beyond 30 days need a standard L visa from the Chinese Embassy in Stockholm.

Hong Kong and Macau

Swedish passport-holders are visa-free for Hong Kong (90 days) and Macau (90 days). These are separate immigration processes.

Swedish-specific notes

There is no direct Chinese Embassy consular office in Gothenburg; applications for L visas go through Stockholm. Processing is straightforward for standard tourism applications.
