China visa for Portugal citizens
Portuguese passport holders are eligible for 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China. Hong Kong 90 days, Macau 90 days. Macau has historical Portuguese ties.

Portuguese ordinary passport holders are eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China for tourism, business, family visit or transit. Portugal was included in the 2024 expansion.
Macau — historical context
Macau was a Portuguese territory until 1999 and remains home to a community with Portuguese cultural heritage. Portuguese passport-holders are visa-free for Macau (90 days) and will find that Portuguese and Cantonese are both official languages there. This makes the mainland-plus-Macau itinerary particularly appealing for Portuguese travellers.
What you need at the border
- Passport valid 6+ months beyond stay.
- Onward ticket.
- Hotel booking or address.
- Digital arrival declaration.
Scope
Tourism, business meetings, family visits in mainland China. Tibet Travel Permit required separately. Stays beyond 30 days need an L visa from the Chinese Embassy in Lisbon.
Hong Kong and Macau
Portuguese passport-holders are visa-free for Hong Kong (90 days) and Macau (90 days). Mainland entry rights are separate and independent.
Practical notes
Lisbon–Beijing and Lisbon–Shanghai connections exist, often routing through European or Gulf hubs. TAP Air Portugal partners with Chinese carriers on some routes.
