China visa for Norway citizens

Norwegian passport holders are eligible for 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China. Hong Kong 90 days, Macau 90 days.

Visa rules verified May 2026. Confirm with your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate before booking flights.

Current status (verified May 2026)

Norwegian ordinary passport holders are eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China for tourism, business, family visit or transit. Norway, as a non-EU EEA country, was included in the 2024 expansion.

Relations context

Norway and China restored full diplomatic and trade relations following a lengthy period of strained ties after 2010. As of May 2026, relations are normalised and the visa-free arrangement is active. Travellers should confirm policy has not changed before booking.

What you need at the border

  • Passport valid 6+ months beyond intended stay.
  • Onward ticket.
  • Hotel booking or address.
  • Digital customs and health declaration on arrival.

Scope

Tourism, business meetings, family visit. Tibet requires a Tibet Travel Permit through a licensed agency. Stays beyond 30 days need an L visa from the Chinese Embassy in Oslo.

Hong Kong and Macau

Norwegian passport-holders are visa-free for Hong Kong (90 days) and Macau (90 days). Crossing to mainland China triggers a separate immigration process.

Practical notes

Oslo–Beijing direct flight routes operate seasonally. Oslo–Shanghai routes run more consistently. The 30-day window comfortably covers most Norwegian leisure itineraries.
