Current status (verified May 2026)

Dutch ordinary passport holders are eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China for tourism, business, family visit or transit. The Netherlands has been included in the visa-free programme since the 2024 expansion.

What you need at the border

  • Passport valid 6+ months beyond the intended departure date.
  • Onward flight confirmation.
  • Hotel booking or address.
  • Digital arrival declaration via WeChat mini-programme or QR code at the airport.

Scope of the entitlement

Single or multiple entries within 30 days. Tourism, business meetings, family visits are covered. Tibet travel still requires the separate Tibet Travel Permit through a licensed agency; some western border areas have additional requirements.

If you need longer

Apply for a standard L visa at the Chinese Embassy in The Hague or via CVASC offices. Standard documentation (application form, photo, return ticket, hotel booking) and four-working-day processing apply.

Hong Kong and Macau

Dutch passport-holders are visa-free for Hong Kong (90 days) and Macau (90 days). The mainland entitlement is separate.

A note for business travellers

The Netherlands is a major European hub for trade with China. If your visit involves signing contracts or performing paid work in China, the M (business) or Z (work) visa applies. The 30-day visa-free window covers attendance at meetings, trade fairs, and due diligence visits.
