China visa for Malaysia citizens
Malaysian passport holders are eligible for 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China. A long-standing bilateral arrangement reflecting close economic ties.

Malaysian ordinary passport holders are eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China for tourism, business, family visit or transit. Malaysia has had a visa-free arrangement with China for several years, predating the broader 2024 expansion.
What you need at the border
- Passport valid at least 6 months beyond intended stay.
- Onward ticket.
- Hotel booking or private address.
- Digital arrival declaration.
Chinese-Malaysian community
A significant proportion of Malaysian citizens are ethnic Chinese, and cross-strait family visits are common. The visa-free arrangement is particularly relevant for family visits and for attending events or religious festivals in China.
What 30-day visa-free covers
Tourism, business meetings, family visits. Tibet Travel Permit required separately. Stays beyond 30 days need an L visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
Hong Kong and Macau
Malaysian passport-holders are visa-free for Hong Kong (30 days) and Macau (30 days). Mainland entry rights are separate.
Practical notes
Kuala Lumpur is well-connected to Chinese cities; AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, and Chinese carriers operate multiple routes to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and other destinations. Budget airline options exist for shorter hops within the region.
