China visa for Brazil citizens
Brazilian passport holders are eligible for 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China as of 2024. Hong Kong 90 days visa-free, Macau 30 days.
Current status (verified May 2026)
Brazilian ordinary passport holders are eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China for tourism, business, family visit or transit. Brazil joined the visa-free programme in 2024 as China expanded coverage to major South American nations.
What you need at the border
- Passport valid at least 6 months beyond your intended departure from China.
- Onward ticket to a destination outside mainland China.
- Hotel booking confirmation or private address.
- Digital health and customs declaration completed at arrival.
What the 30-day window covers
Tourism, business meetings, family visits, and short-stay transit. Travel throughout mainland China is permitted, with the standard exceptions: the Tibet Autonomous Region requires a Tibet Travel Permit obtained before arrival, and some western border zones require additional documentation.
Longer stays and work
Stays beyond 30 days require a standard L (tourist) or relevant category visa. Employment in China requires a Z visa, and study requires an X visa — neither is covered by visa-free entry.
Applying for a standard L visa from Brazil
Applications go through the Chinese Embassy in Brasília or consulates-general in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Processing typically takes four working days. Requirements include a completed online application form (printed and signed), photograph, round-trip flight booking, and hotel reservation or invitation letter.
Hong Kong and Macau
Brazilian passport-holders are visa-free for Hong Kong (90 days) and Macau (30 days). Crossing from either SAR into mainland China is a separate immigration event.
Practical notes
Brazil and China have extensive trade ties; business travel is common. The direct São Paulo–Beijing air route makes the trip practical. As with any visa-free arrangement, policies can change — confirm current status before booking non-refundable tickets.
