Current status (verified May 2026)
Belgian ordinary passport holders are eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China for tourism, business, family visit or transit. Belgium is included in the 2024 expansion of the visa-free programme.
What you need at the border
- Passport valid at least 6 months beyond intended stay.
- Onward ticket.
- Hotel booking or private address.
- Digital customs and health declaration on arrival.
Scope and limits
The 30-day window covers tourism and business meetings. Tibet requires the Tibet Travel Permit. Stays longer than 30 days require a standard L visa from the Chinese Embassy in Brussels.
Standard L visa application
Belgian applicants apply at the Chinese Embassy in Brussels or via CVASC offices. Requirements and processing times mirror other EU nationalities.
Hong Kong and Macau
Belgian passport-holders are visa-free for Hong Kong (90 days) and Macau (90 days). These are separate immigration events from mainland China entry.
Brussels connections
Brussels hosts significant diplomatic and EU-China relations infrastructure. Travellers with business purposes in both mainland China and Brussels often combine trips; the 30-day window is usually ample for a single-destination China leg.
