Consular services

Passport services, emergency travel documents, consular assistance and welfare notifications for New Zealand nationals.

Visiting and hours

The New Zealand Embassy in Beijing handles consular matters for New Zealand nationals throughout mainland China. Routine passport renewals can be initiated online through the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs passport application system; the Embassy assists with in-person applications, emergency travel documents, and urgent consular situations.

Appointments are required for all in-person services; book through the Embassy website. The Ritan area location is in Chaoyang's diplomatic district. Out-of-hours emergencies are handled through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) emergency line in Wellington at +64-4-439-8000. New Zealand nationals are encouraged to register their stay via SafeTravel.govt.nz.

Addresses, phone numbers, and appointment procedures change. Always confirm current details on the official embassy or consulate website before attending. In genuine emergencies, use the out-of-hours duty line rather than daytime contact numbers.
